Used it with a calculated 8.3 lbs camera & 400mm lens combo. I found it quite good. Vibrations damped out quite quickly. I also used it for a pair of 100 x 25 Celestron binocs. I found it was a lot more vibey with the extension racked up. No experience at higher powers however.

I use the Manfrotto 393 gimbal head (you can see it using Adorama/B&H/Manfrotto web sites) and it does very well. The down side for this head is its size and weight.
